I was drunk from last week and skipped out on my tab in error. Anyhow, the barmaid says, "Hey, I’ve been waiting on you." She tells me my tab and I pay it. She’s like the bartendender girl in "The Fighter". Meanwhile there are 3 guys 3 seats down who I used to play baseball with me all the time. I used to strike them out all the time since they couldn’t hit a good pitcher. Anyhow, the bartender starts talking to me and I lie about my age, saying I’m 5 years younger than the big bald head guys age. Even though we’re the same age, I look 25-27, they’re 38 like me. Anyhow she starts talking to me and we get along, plus she gives me a wave goodbye. I drive a Lexus IS250 and am physically fit at 38. All in all, the guys give me a crappy look when she waves to me. I try to stay shy, but what am I supposed to do? They’re out of my league because they know I’m financially more sucessful.
if she heard you exchanging stories with these guys then she has to figure you are the same age as them. You would not be in the same baseball league if you were younger.

What is the expected net income percentage in a bar/tavern.?
I realize you can’t put a hard number on it but I was trying to figure out where a bar owner should roughly be percentage wise for net income vs. gross sales in a neighborhood sports bar.
about 22.5%!!!
How do you own a bar?
Is it difficult to own a small neighborhood bar? are alcohol licences difficult to achieve? and if a bar is pretty successful what would profit roughly be?
Difficult is a relative word. In general any restaurant/bar business is difficult. Getting a liquor license is pretty easy. Now for the hard parts.
1. Limiting your liability for over serving people who do bad things.
2. Making a profit, theft is an issue but if you have careful controls like accurate inventories this can be minimized. People outside the industry also don’t understand all the hidden costs. There is lots of profit to be made if you can keep the place full.
3. Be prepared for long hours and lots of headaches.
4. Attracting a good following which usually costs money, location is key.
My advice is get some knowledge about costs and maybe work in the business for a few years first and ask lots of questions of the owners. Never buy a bar that has already failed. If you are looking at an existing bar don’t judge the business by one night when the owner knows you’re coming and fills it with friends, go several times and check the books.

since so many people drive drunk after visiting a bar, the insurance needed to run a bar
gives so much of the almost net profit to the insurance firms. BE careful about
having a bar………YOU are responsible for the acts of your patrons for x hours AFTER they
leave the bar………
