I’m moving to Paris in a week for 5 months and the place I’ll be living doesn’t have internet access.
They say there are internet cafes in the neighborhood, but are internet cafes free?
The reason this is a big deal for me is because I’m going to Paris for school. I’ll need to use the internet.

Also, do libraries have free internet access?
The reason I asked is because I’ve never used them, in any country.

Internet cafes charge you because they live on that. They rent PCs and charge you for Internet or to print.

The best is to bring your laptop, with wifi and go to Mc Donald’s, Starbucks or to other many places that have free wifi.

You can also use Internet for free at public libraries but you have to subscribe, it’s free.

Your school may give you better advice.

See http://www.paris.fr/english/guide-for-foreign-residents/studying-in-paris/how-to-access-the-wi-fi-free-of-charge-in-paris-duplique/rub_8141_stand_109290_port_18788

Public libraries, free acces to computers and Internet
I think this will be a good investment for the neighborhood and for the customers of the barbershop while waiting to get their haircut, so what i need some help on is what kind of things will i need to make this a success and what kind of foods can i have on my menu?

In the UK there are all sorts of Hygiene regulations concerning the preparation and sale of food.
I don’t know where you are but finding out about that may be a good place to start.

I’m interviewing for a job in Denver (live now in Philadelphia) and am trying to get a sense of our housing options if we moved. We’d be renting.

Which neighborhood is best for us? We don’t need to be in the heart of downtown but would need to be reasonably close to UCD. We’d love a neighborhood that has some kind of walkable cultural/restaurant/cafe scene. But also being near bike paths/nature trails would be a huge plus. We’re open to different types of housing but would prefer a small house or duplex with a small yard (we have a small dog). We’re mid-30s, no kids. Historic houses/neighborhoods would be a bonus.

Which neighborhoods should we be looking at it?

I have friends who live in the Highlands, which is across 25 from UCD. Most of the outdoor activity would be along the South Platte bike trail.

I’m 17 years old, still in high school but culinary school-bound next year. I just got the most amazing job opportunity: baking at an independently owned cafe/bakery. The owner really wants me to overhaul their whole dessert section (they haven’t changed their recipes in 10 years and need to compete with two other bakeries that have opened up in the same neighborhood). I’ve never worked in a real restaurant before, and she knows this, but she thinks I’m talented and I can handle it. I’m very excited and nervous at the same time.

Do you have any advice for a first-time restaurant baker? Thank you in advance!

Always keep in mind that your education and training come first. If you decide to take the position at this bakery, make it known to your employer that school comes first.
I was employed at a fly in fishing lodge during cooking school, and I can’t believe the amount of sleep I missed over those years.
As a baker, you’ll either be working graveyard shifts, or starting work at 3:00 a.m.
Find out first what kind of hours you would be working and what time your Culinary Arts classes start in the mornings. Can you handle both?
If you put school on hold for this "amazing" opportunity, what will you do if the owners retire or downsize, or shut down because the customers have all gone over to those other bakeries, and you no longer have a job, and don’t have enough background and experience to find another job.
Remember, you will be competing with adults who have a family to feed, and years of experience behind them when applying for positions.
Who do you think will get the job?
Get yourself some background so that you don’t have to worry if a place closes down. With the right education and contacts (that you will be getting in school) you should have no problems finding new positions at any time.
Job opportunities come and go, your career is what you make it. Good Luck.

I’m moving from London, UK to Toronto next year and would like to live in a comparable neighbourhood. I live on the edge of Hampstead Heath, so have great access to green spaces, outdoor swimming, local/independent shops and cafes, plus a generally nice, safe neighbourhood. It’s fairly posh here and is populated mainly by families and their dogs. Something similar or of the same pace in Toronto would be nice, as I don’t know the city all that well.

Rosedale, Forest Hill, Lytton Park, Bedford Park and Lawrence Park fit the criteria but they are quite expensive neighbourhoods. The Annex and Cabbagetown are kinda a similar area with independent shops and restaurants and nothing but Victorian houses but it’s also expensive but not as much as the ones above. Casa Loma which is named after the castle in the area and the surrounding areas are also very nice but expensive. That area is right by a ravine and St. Clair Ave which has TONS of cafes and restaurants because it had been recently been gentrified. Leaside, Highpark and Cedarvale are very nice family friendly neighbourhood. Roncesvalles too. Some of the areas in Summerhill are nice too. Mirvish Village, Leslieville, Deer Park, Baby Point and Lambton I don’t know much about these neighbourhoods but I heard they were nice. I hope I helped!!!

I have never been to San Francisco but I want to find a job as an industrial designer there and move next year. Can you help me find the perfect neighborhood? Thanks so much!

About me:

27 year old industrial designer. I design many things from furniture to sports equipment.
I like rock and roll. Mainly 70’s rock like Iggy Pop and the MC5. Love detroit bands.
Not a big fan of hipster music.
I’m straight and would rather not have too many assless chaps walking down the street.
I have no problem with gays I just prefer that men wear pants.
I ride a motorcycle and will not own a car.
I am from France and have lived in Chicago for 5 years.
I like old school charm in the streets around me.
I am willing to pay for the right place and sacrifice other things.
I love streets with a lot of street level commerce and not 6 lane boulevards.

Which neighborhoods have the most small street level commerce (Grocery, newspaper, cafe, books, records, ec)?

I want to be in the action and I want a lot of pedestrians walking around my neighborhood.

Thanks so much!

Ed

I am from Turin, but I live in England now. Believe me, in Italy you will have no problem at all finding food shops and cafes at walking distance from anywhere you live. Italian cities are packed with cafes, literally one on every corner if not more. Same with food shops.
Crocetta should be a nice area, and also Mirafiori, and Lingotto (generally the south area of Turin is nicer than the north)

Not the shopping street, but more of a what’s a good place to live?

Preferably a French speaking neighbourhood, and safe for a woman to walk late at night alone in.

Age range late twenties, no family. Someplace with cheap-midrange single bedroom apartments. Where are the places with style I should be checking out when I’ll be scouting? any suggestions?

Try the Plateau Mont-Royal.

"The Plateau is characterized by brightly-coloured houses, cafés, book shops, and a laissez-faire attitude. It’s the location of some famous attractions on Saint Laurent Street, including Schwartz’s Deli (famous for its Montreal smoked meat), and a weekend street fair during the summer that sees extremely crowded streets. In 1997, Utne Reader rated it one of the 15 "hippest" neighbourhoods in North America."
