I know people who are from or know Brooklyn will go into an uproar about how they are not similar, but I have heard that the two cities are as similar as can be for being in two different states.
So what are some good Philadelphia neighborhoods close to center city and somewhat similar to Brooklyn?

Thanks in Advance!

So I’m doing this program and it’s prestigious, only the downside is that they don’t have housing, so the people attending have to find their own housing and we’re only high school students, so I found two other people looking for an apartment to stay, but I was wondering what neighborhoods in New York are pretty safe for teenagers to spend three weeks in!! Thanks guys

p.s. What neighborhoods are not so good to stay in?

It would be helpful to know where the program is located, so we know which areas to direct you to. If your program is in Midtown, areas in Queens like Astoria and Sunnyside might work. If your program is in Lower Manhattan, areas in Brooklyn like Park Slope might be best. If it’s somewhere else, then let us know so we can find a good area for you. Also include your rent budget and how long you are willing to travel to reach the program.

I hope this information was very helpful.

You know, if instead of black people moving into neighborhoods you have white people instead? Does having white people move in increase the property values?

Community leaders have an undeniable rule of thumb that is surprisingly consistent. Any community that has less than a 50% white population is in a hopeless decline to drugs, failure and crime that is impossible to prevent even with massive government help. As insulting to Blacks as this may be, it is the cold hard fact of community planners that has been repeated hundreds and thousands of times with virtually no exception. Thus it would follow that having white families move into an already racially mixed neighborhood would NOT decrease property values as long as the neighborhood was not already known for crime, drugs, and failure.
Bottom line is: Move to predominately White neighborhoods in the suburbs and countryside if you wish to raise your children to be successful, decent people.

Good neighborhoods. How long are the commute times from these neighborhoods to lower manhattan?

Web sites might be a good place to find an apartment or house to rent, if you want to go through the entire list to find one in your state and then city.

The best place to look for places to rent is to go to the yellow pages of your telephone book, look under property managers.

These individuals list properties for rent in certain areas, so make sure you select the areas in which you wish to rent.

Call several of the property managers listed there, tell them you want a list of properties that they have for rent. Some will fax, email or mail the list of local places to rent along with the address, number of bedrooms and bath rooms, amenities available, such as washer and dryers or gyms, the monthly rental of the unit. Most will include a rental application. These list will include the monthly rental required, if a lease or month to month agreement will be signed. They will also indicate if they will accept Section 8 vouchers. They will also indicate it they have disabled access, allow pets and if so the type allowed.

They might indicate a web site that you might visit to get their list of places to rent. It does not cost to get a rental list from a reputable property manager.

Some will require you to stop by their office and pick up the list. A lot of them post their list outside so the list are available 24/7 365.

Make sure you don’t fall for the scams and purchase a list as 70%-80% of these list are composed of free list they have compiled. They are not the property managers of any property in most instances.

You might also google Property managers in whatever city or community you want to live in and see what comes up. Again do not pay for this information as it is free from reliable property managers.

I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

"FIGHT ON"

Allston/Brighton has the highest % of college students. Bottom line, you do not want or need a car. You will want to live close to the green line for your transportation needs. www.mbta.com

You want to avoid Roxbury, Mattapan and Dorchester.

http://www.mcphs.edu/campuses/boston/student_life/residence_life/images/boston_neighborhoods.jpg

Congratulations on getting in Berklee, it’s a great school located in the best part of Boston (my opinion). I envy the experience your about to have. Good luck, don’t get home sick, after all is said and done you will love Boston. If your street smart, it’s a very safe city and a lot of fun. If you get home sick stick it out, you will get over it.

rogers park is a dump and very high crime, I wouldn’t recommend it

stay away from the south side, such as bronzeville south and anything west of western avenue

the best places are Lincoln Park, Old Town, Uptown, Lakeview, Andersonville, Edgewater, the Loop and Wrigleyville…but they are also very expensive.

Everywhere in Chicago is linked by transit and you can bring your bike on the EL and the buses have racks for them, your bike cannot ride the EL during rush hour…

Budlong woods isn’t horrible for someone starting out in Chicago who is young, it’s close the the brown line too =)

So I ansah yo question like if you only ask round Oahu alright? First off, no tink bout staying anywea west of Ko’olina okay? Lotta bad kine people stay living ova dea okay? Next, stay away from Kalihi, Ewa Beach (but Ewa okay yeah?), most part Pearl City, and high rises in Salt Lake. Actually dea so many bad kine neighborhoods on Oahu that it easier fo tell you da good ones alright? Good ones is Kunia, most Ewa, Kapolei, Manoa, Aina Haina, Hawaii Kai, Kailua, and some part Kaneohe okay.

Thank you.

Toronto is generally a very safe city and does not have any of the ghettos other places have. There really is no area of TO I would not walk through myself.

To live, I personally would avoid the Jane/Finch corridor, Parkdale can be a bit iffy – but more with respect to the ”colourful” characters hanging out than any real danger, and ditto for Regent Park.

Other than that, at night it’s just a matter of being aware of your surroundings. Toronto is very safe, but like any other big city, it has its share of potential trouble.
