Best neighborhood in San Francisco to move to?

What is the best neighborhood for a mid 20-something female with a dog to move to? Granted, I plan to find roommates and share a flat, but have no idea where to start looking. I’m looking to move to a neighborhood that is very walk-able, as I don’t have a car (which is probably a good thing in SF). I’d like to be able to walk to movie theaters, cafes, grocery stores, etc. And of course a neighborhood that fits my demographic (mid 20 something female post college).

Thanks!

Most of SF is walkable but there are not a lot of neighborhoods that have movie theaters-plural, along with dog parks. Your best is probably going to be to look in the South of Market Area [SOMA]. This neighborhood has all the amenities you seek and is a up and coming residential area.

For some idea of rents and to help you find a shared housing arrangement your best option is to check out Craig’s List.

I’ve always really liked the area near the Panhandle. Close to Univ of San Francisco campus and the Haight. The Panhandle is long enough so that you can walk a dog in a safe place and if you are adventurous you can cross Stanyan Street into Golden Gate Park.

The area south of Haight Street also has lots of flats in Victorian houses.

You should check out the Upper Fillmore, the Haight, the Panhandle, Inner Richmond, lower Pacific Heights, South Beach, the Marina, Diamond Heights, Noe Valley, Upper Market, Cole Valey, when you arrive and get a feeling of each neighborhood.

    I would suggest:

    The Marina
    North Beach
    Noe Valley
