How can you make neighborhood kids play alley basketball respectfully; not damage property and create noise?

The kids in our neighborhood play alley basketball on garage mounted hoops. There has been damage to garages, loud noise disturbances, trespassing, and bringing large numbers of kids into the area who do not live there. We cannot find a compromise with the kids and everyone is mad and tensions are high. The police have been absolutely no help. Any advice ?

tell them to play at a park or in a local gym…..
call their parents and warn them
remove the hoops
throw away their basketballs

remove all hoops. then if you and the neighbors feel that it would be a good thing, organize the kids into a "league" .
that way it can be controlled with a responsible adult or two, maybe a referee and make a real game of it. we all have to understand that these kids are seeing a lot of their hero’s being drafted to the NBA making the bucks that only we could dream of. most all think that they are the next M.Jordan or Shaq. we know as adults that the chances are few, so it is up to us to develop their attitudes into areas that will serve them best. playing a little b-ball is not a bad thing, it’s not everything.

Throw their ball in the river, then they’ll understand how it feels to have their own property damaged. Stupid kids.
