How to legally make "house calls" at clients’ homes for cosmetology services?

Posted by admin on December 21st, 2009 and filed under neighborhood services | 3 Comments »

Single 42 year old mother with a Cosmetology License would like to advertise for services in one’s home in her local neighborhood to Style, Cut, Highlight, Hair, etc.

However, I cannot find the Texas Cosmetology Rules concerning this type of service. Is it legal? What are the requirments or restrictions…in Texas only.

For links to full texts of Texas cosmetology Statutes and rules, go to http://www.txcc.state.tx.us/rulesandlaws.htm and click the appropriate links.

For statute and rule compliance questions not included in the above categories, send inquiry to cosmetologists@license.state.tx.us

I don’t know what the regulations are but I would think that you could contact the board in your state to find out. You could also try asking someone at a local beauty school, they usually stay pretty informed of the rules.

I do it in New York, it’s legal because you’re providing a service. It’s no different than the people who travel to nursing homes or to funeral parlors. If you do it full-time, I reccomend that you carry your own insurance though. Good Luck!!
