Countryside, taking a tour to three different homes, about 3 miles total walking, from very poor dirt-floor cousin, to a upscale home replete with tile, etc. Very unique experience, for the white man xl :D loved it.

Built just after WWII this area would have been (over) developed just like the rest of shinjuku, but a grassroots movement in the 70’s protected it. I suppose now its likely to get destroyed when THE BIG ONE hits tokyo, but until then its a quiet out of the way place that you can go to to get a taste of old tokyo. the path leading to it used to be a train line that led to shinjuku station.
